Looking to spruce things up in your home on a dime? Check out these four affordable decorating ideas that are as fun as they are unique:
1. Upholster a Headboard
Custom headboards can be expensive, but it’s not hard at all to make your own. Plywood, some batting, your fabric of choice and a little elbow grease will give you a headboard that no one else owns. Experiment with different shapes for a fun twist. We like the look of this bell-shaped paisley headboard in a bedroom fit with orange checks and lime green accents.
2. Upholster & Frame with Inexpensive Fabrics
There are plenty of quality fabrics out there that don’t cost a fortune and are truly special. Robert Allen@Home has extremely affordable fabrics (many under $20!) that can give a room new life. Whether upholstered on a sofa or framed and hung on the wall, these patterns make a statement and keep your budget in check.
3. Dress Up a Door
Need some privacy behind your French doors? Or perhaps you just want to liven up a cabinet? Attach wallpaper to one side of the door or cabinet for an easy update. Use map wallpaper, like the patterns below, for a little color and worldly charm.
4. Re-purpose Old Furniture
Give an old dresser or desk new life by revamping it as a banquette. Cut off the legs and cover the top with a cushion and pillows. For distressed furniture, go Country-chic with blue checks, stripes and florals.
